1 February is always a public holiday in Kuala Lumpur. I was still down with cold fever since Monday, thus could not be with Chemat, Wak, Matyen, Seken & Arif when they initiated another RRI ride on that Friday. I was sleeping away my sickness at home all day long!
Earlier in the week, Chemat started a thread for a Kiara ride on Saturday. However, things turned sour when some disagreed on a few nitty gritty issues. In the end, Chemat discreetly planned a Friday RRI ride while Chelan & Faizal initiated a Saturday ride to Broga. I chose to be with Chelan & Faizal as that would give me an extra day to recupperate from my illness.
Saturday early morning, I was still under the weather. The thought of a.w.o.l from the ride came to mind. But since I promised them, I garnered whatever strength I still have and silently prayed that I would survive the demanding trail of Broga. My prayers were answered..... in a way. Faizal sms'd around 7:00am "change of plan... its not that fun doing a threesome in Broga.. going to FRIM instead. RV 8.30am at the usual place". ahhh... I was a bit relieved. At least the drive's nearer... and the trail's... well many chicken loop just in case the illness get the better of me.
After a delicious meehoon as prepared by he wife, I headed to FRIM, arriving just after 8.30am. Faizal & Chelan was already parked nearby the tokong - looked like they also just arrived. Chelan needed some food, so we spend another good hour at the warung! Thanks Chelan for the drinks!
9.25am, we rode into FRIM (Faizal paid the RM1 entrance fee for all - thanks bro!) Five minutes later we were ready to do the Bujang trail a.k.a the dream trail.... Faizal led the way while I, as always, was the sweeper....
We rode all the way, non-stop uphill, until we arrived at the start of the single track dream trail. By the way, a rider came up behind me while we were trudging the uphill stretch... but he took a different route along the way. He gave me quite a shocker when he suddenly appeared behind me! We stopped just momentarily here... mostly for me to catch my breath. Faizal was all energy as he chose not to rest but to explore an uphill right turn just before this stopping place! Chelan kept me company and less than five minutes later, Faizal came back saying "it was up.. up and... too much up laaa..", and we pushed on to the first downhill stretch...
I led the pack. It was a nice downhill - no pressure to keep up with anyone up front! However, the joy was abruptly stopped.... Fallen trees obstructed a few places along the trail - three locations to be exact. The first one was this one.... thank god we could just duck under and through it.... The opening was also just nice for our bikes.....
To our surprise, Faizal was falling behind.... unbecoming of him... but he did mention earlier that he was a bit tired from the shopping (more of a walking) spree he had to do with the family the day before! Faizal requested for a breather... and I was more than happy to join him!
Chelan took some pictures... plus one of himself!
After Faizal (and me of course) regained our strength... we continued. This time Chelan led, and I was again the last rider. I started to fall behind and began to feel tired. I guess my cold fever has taken the better of me. Slowly I pushed on... stopped at the second fallen tree trail-obstruction location.
Not a while later, I can hear Chelan shouted for me.... obviously they were a bit worried... I quickly pedalled my way to where they were rested. What a relief for me then.... get to catch my breath yet again.... Chelan remarked "ride santai... ok lar...."
It was a rather short break though.... again less than five minutes. I decided to be in front for the next stretch... downhill with bearable and pedallable uphill here and there... but again, the ride was abruptly stopped by this big tree! For this one, we had to carry our bike over the bypass on the right hand side..... After that it was downhill all the way to Rover track... a funfilled stretch I might add!
Time to catch some breath again as we made it safely to the rover track. Met up with three riders a while later.. one rider talked about the newly fiitted tubeless panaracer tyre on his bike. But as we were about to proceed, my bike had a flat rear tyre.
Faizal quickly voluntereed to replace the tube. First time for my AM1000.... the original tube was with a 2.2 width... the replacement only 1.9.... it took a wee bit of air for that tube to expand to the tyre size.... While I assisted Fazial, Chelan took the camera and started to click away.... lot of pics here....
Not missing out pics of bikes only....
Some more pictures as taken by Chelan using my basic point-and-shoot PowerShot A550.
After my bike was all ready (thanks Faizal!).... it was yet again uphill along the Rover trail. We stopped at the pumphouse area simply because I felt my rear tyre was a bit underinflated. After pumping some air..... and as we were getting ready to continue, a young auntie enquired about our bikes. "basikal ni mahal ka" she asked pointing towards Faizal's Dawg. I asked back "berapa harga you would say mahal?" ...... "sepuloh ribu ringgit..?" she replied. I smiled and said "kalau camtu, basikal ni kira murah lar... dlm RM4 ribu jerr..."
Our conversation continued with such questions as why we rode (read our "team section" ma'am!), how often we ride, why the full suspension, etc etc.... It ended with one his children (she had two boys and two sweet girls with her & husband there...) taking a spin on my bike.... we then bid them goodbye and rode off through the downhill after that pumphouse area...
It was already 11.00am when we left the pumphouse area. Chelan was a bit worried that if we do the Sungai Buloh route, it would be around 2.00pm before we finish the ride at the earliest. So, I decided that we do the short cut through a downhill sowhere along Bukit Hari Track. I was introduced to this trail on our
31st Ride by Chemat. It was a quicker and shorter route. To complete the ride, we detoured to the 501 Track - the short single track introduced to us by Amir sometimes back. We rode all the way.. no rest stops until we arrived back at the
warung area.
Faizal finally had his meal on that day after abstaining from eating for fear of his memerut sindrome... hehehehe.... While Chelan and I just had 100plus and hot lemon tea respectively.... Faizal treat.. thanks again bro!
Nasi lemak with paru... delicious! Now you see, now you don't! Sapu licin wa cakap lu.... hehehehe...
Soon after, we hurriedly made our way to our cars as it started to rain. Chelan was first to leave, while Faizal and me decided to make a trip to Batu Cave - first Faizal wanted to visit his Uncle Samy.... his bent fork not yet repaired; then we headed to Welly for the motorized kind of bikes.. "Just jamu mata" as said by Faizal.... hehehehe...
Another enjoyable ride... especially the (other) "three's company" of coz...
